Shark Tank India judge Aman Gupta recently admitted to a "reel addiction," spending up to two hours scrolling late at night before sleeping and waking up without an alarm to maintain a flexible schedule. However, neurologist Dr. Prashant Makhija warns that such irregular habits can severely disrupt the body’s circadian rhythm, which regulates vital functions like hormone release, digestion, and immunity. Dr. Makhija explains that while waking up naturally is ideal, it must be paired with consistent sleep times to be effective; otherwise, the brain operates without a stable biological schedule. Furthermore, the blue light and high-energy content of short videos suppress melatonin and overstimulate the nervous system, training the brain to stay alert rather than resting. To prevent long-term issues like memory lapses, mood swings, and metabolic risks, experts advocate for a "wind-down" period of stillness at least 60 minutes before bed, emphasizing that neurological health thrives on consistency rather than convenience.
