At the Chanakya Defence Dialogue, Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi underscored that “youth” is defined more by mindset than by age, observing that today’s Gen Z is socially conscious, digitally fluent and globally connected. With the right guidance and opportunities, he said, this generation has the potential to help India reach developed-nation status by 2037, well ahead of the 2047 target. Speaking about social media habits among young cadets, he noted that new NDA entrants often find it difficult to disconnect from their phones and may take several months to adapt. While recognising smartphones as indispensable in modern military life, he stressed the need for discipline — understanding when to use them, when to put them away, and what is appropriate to share online. He also highlighted the value of thoughtful communication, urging young soldiers to respond with reflection rather than react impulsively.#genz #indiayouth #upendradwivedi #defence #armychief #modernwarfare #smartphones #nationbuilding #socialmedia #militarydiscipline #futureindia
