Doctors warn that prolonged exposure to PM2.5 levels as high as 500 is equivalent to “smoking 25 cigarettes a day,” even for newborns. Experts say temporary fixes like smog towers, odd-even schemes and indoor purifiers are doing little while systemic failures and weak enforcement allow the crisis to persist.
