Israel Becomes 1st Nation To Recognise Somaliland, Somalia’s Breakaway Region, As Independent Sovereign State

Israel on December 26 recognised the Republic of Somaliland as an independent state, becoming the first country to do so since its 1991 break from Somalia. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu called the move historic, signed a declaration with Somaliland’s president, invited him to Israel, and announced plans for embassies and expanded economic cooperation bilaterally strong.
