Congress workers gathered at Mangaluru International Airport on Wednesday to welcome AICC general secretary KC Venugopal — but the reception quickly turned into a pointed political message amid the simmering power tussle between chief minister Siddaramaiah and his deputy DK Shivakumar. As Venugopal stepped out of the terminal, party workers, led by KPCC general secretary Mithun Rai, broke into loud pro-Shivakumar slogans, a display seen as a public assertion of support for the deputy CM at a time when factions within the Congress continue to jostle over influence and future leadership in Karnataka.
