Sania Mirza enjoyed her pregnancy a lot, she ‘ate everything I didn’t eat for 30 years’

In a chat with Masaba Gupta, former Tennis player Sania Mirza candidly admitted that she "ate everything" she had avoided for 30 years during her pregnancy, highlighting a common experience where expectant mothers indulge due to intense cravings. Dr. Gandhali Deorukhkar explains that these cravings are biologically driven by a rapid shift in hormones that affect taste and appetite, simultaneously boosting hunger signals due to the body's significantly increased energy needs. It is normal to feel like eating "everything," but Dr. Swati Rai and Dr. Deorukhkar caution that indulging freely in sugary or salty foods can lead to acidity, unnecessary weight gain, or unstable blood sugar. Cravings are often most intense in the first and third trimesters due to hormonal changes, increased metabolic demands, and sluggish digestion. The key to managing cravings without restriction is to eat small, frequent meals, pair preferred foods with protein or fiber for satisfaction, and stay well-hydrated, focusing on a gentle balance that supports the health of both the mother and baby.
