Supreme Court Stays HEI Equity Rules After Student Protests

The Supreme Court on Thursday stayed the Centre’s ‘Promotion of Equity in Higher Educational Institutes’ 2026 notification after student bodies challenged it as discriminatory. The court flagged vague language, exclusion of general category students, and possible social divisions. The matter will be heard on March 19.
