The study published in the journal Nature Communications was conducted by the Oregon Health and Science University and led by the institute’s director, Shoukhrat Mitalipov. Researchers took the nucleus from a human skin cell and implanted it into a donor egg stripped of its own genetic code. This is the same procedure used to create Dolly the Sheep, the world’s first cloned mammal, in 1996. Here’s why this is a big deal
